Notes:
Use the size chart above to choose the correct size before purchasing any GMOTY Fashion Academy patterns. All patterns are drafted based on these body measurements.
If your measurements fall between two sizes, choose the larger size and adjust during fitting.
How to Take Your Body Measurements
To choose the correct pattern size, take your body measurements accurately before selecting your size. Use a flexible measuring tape and measure over fitted clothing or undergarments for the most accurate results. Stand naturally and avoid pulling the tape too tight.
If possible, ask someone to help you take the measurements.
How to Measure Bust
The bust measurement is taken around the fullest part of your bust.
Place the measuring tape around your body so that it passes across the fullest part of your bust and around your back. Make sure the tape is level and straight across your back and not dipping down or riding up.
The tape should sit comfortably against your body without being too tight. You should be able to breathe normally while taking the measurement.
Record the measurement in inches or centimeters and use it to select your pattern size according to the size chart.
Tip:
For the most accurate bust measurement, wear the type of bra you would normally wear with the garment you plan to sew.
How to Measure Waist
The waist measurement is taken at your natural waistline.
Your natural waist is the narrowest part of your torso, usually located slightly above your belly button and below your ribcage. If you are unsure where your natural waist is, bend slightly to one side; the crease that forms is your natural waistline.
Wrap the measuring tape around this area and keep the tape level all the way around your body. The tape should fit snugly but should not be pulled tightly.
Stand relaxed and breathe normally while taking the measurement.
Record the measurement and compare it to the waist measurement in the size chart.
How to Measure Hips
The hip measurement is taken around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
Stand with your feet together and wrap the measuring tape around the widest part of your hips and buttocks. This is usually about 7–9 inches (18–23 cm) below your natural waistline, though it may vary from person to person.
Make sure the measuring tape remains level and straight around your body. Do not pull the tape too tight; it should rest comfortably against your body.
Record this measurement and use it to determine your correct pattern size.
Important Sizing Tip
If your body measurements fall between two sizes, choose the larger size and adjust the fit during sewing if necessary.
Patterns are drafted based on body measurements rather than ready-to-wear clothing sizes, so it is normal for your pattern size to differ from the size you usually buy in stores.
